Tools during COVID19 Social Distancing
Updated: Jul 14
One of the biggest impact to our work is Social distancing, also called physical distancing. This is a set of non-pharmaceutical interventions or measures taken to prevent the spread of a contagious disease by maintaining a physical distance between people and reducing the number of times people come into close contact with each other. Today we are sharing with you various networking tools that can be used with your teams or clients during this unprecedented crisis:
* Conferencing tools * Presenting tools * Engagement tools * Project management tools * Other tools
Zoom – A popular tool for video conferences and webinars. No matter where you are or which device you are connected to, you will be able to join a meeting. It is very easy to set up and to use. You can download the free version and give it a try. If you like it, we recommend that you get the Pro version, which has unlimited meeting duration and cloud recording, among other advantages.
GoToMeeting – A popular alternative to Zoom, which is easy to use and has all of the functionalities that you need, including screen sharing and a new feature which enables you to start a meeting from the Slack project management tool.
FreeConferenceCall – A free service that offers online meetings, video conferencing and audio conferencing.
Webex – Another great tool that is comparable to Zoom and GotoMeeting, with screen sharing and document sharing capabilities. There is also an app available, which means you can easily use your mobile phone or tablet to stay connected wherever you are.
OpenMeetings – An older tool providing video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools.
BigBlueButton – Web conferencing tool designed for online learning.
Jitsi – Open source video conferencing tool for small or large groups.
Vidyo – A tool commonly used for healthcare organisations, governments and education facilities
YouTube Live – Some of you might already be familiar with the online streaming options of YouTube Live. One of the advantages of this tool is that you can have a very large audience and choose who views you by creating an unlisted streaming (only the people with the link can see it). Zoom meetings can also be streamed via YouTube Live.
Facebook Live – This is a great option for Facebook lovers. A Facebook profile and a camera in your device is all you need. One of the advantages of Facebook Live is that it is more interactive than some of the other tools; your audience can react and comment with emojis and you can interact with them.
Slido – If your priority is to engage with your audience during a conference or webinar, Slido is the tool you are looking for. It offers live Q&A and multiple poll options. You just need to create an event code and share it to give the floor to your audience. Free version available.
Swipe – Free to use and easy to use too! Although there is a restriction on the number of questions that can be asked.
DirectPoll – Create instant polls and share them with your audience during presentations. This tool also works really well as part of PowerPoint presentations too.
Project management tools
Slack – A well known project management tool, which “brings the team together, wherever you are”. This collaboration software is intended to make remote working easy and efficient. You can organise your projects and conversations through the ‘channels’ in which you speak to your colleagues and share multiple files, photos or documents. It integrates with your other workplace tools and has a great search function.
Glip – A team management tool that also allows you to hold conference calls. The free version has most of the functionality of the paid for version and even includes unlimited chat, unlimited users and unlimited storage.
Freedcamp – Another popular tool, which is free to use and easy to create team management flows for projects. One of the more popular functions is the task board for projects, as well as the gantt chart feature.
Miro – Online whiteboarding platform that brings teams together virtually.
